Putin’s stubborn stance: Letters

The Issue: Calls on President Trump to put pressure on Putin and send weapons to Ukraine.

After President Trump balked at sending Ukraine those Tomahawks, during a phone call with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed the Kremlin’s open secret that the “whole of Ukraine is ours” (“If Vlad Won’t Talk . . . ,” Editorial, Oct. 22).

It’s long past time that the president puts maximum economic and military pressure on this old Cold War adversary, which is determined to revive its old imperialist legacy.

I agree that President Trump should send Ukraine a small number of Tomahawk missiles on the condition that they be used only against military or industrial targets.

Putin has shown no intention of agreeing to a cease-fire unless he is guaranteed substantial territorial gains, including territory which the Russian army has not yet been able to seize.

Possible strikes against military and industrial targets well beyond the border with Ukraine may be the incentive Putin needs to agree to reasonable cease-fire terms.

Trump finally woke up and smelled the coffee:

Vladimir Putin wants no part of ending this war with Ukraine.

Trump finally realized he was wasting his time trying to convince the Russian dictator to come to an agreement with Volodymyr Zelensky.

The result of the war thus far?

Endless conflict, hundreds of thousands dead and beautiful land destroyed.

But now, Trump has denied sending long-range missives to Kyiv.

Why?

Neville Chamberlain met with Adolf Hitler three times in 1938.

He first agreed that Sudetenland could join Germany if it wished.

However, Hitler said it was not enough.

When the Allies recoiled at further expansion, Hitler called a meeting, resulting in the Munich Agreement.

How well did that work out?

Donald Trump must allow Europe to buy Tomahawks for Ukraine. He must sanction other nations’ purchases of Russian oil.

The United States and Europe must seize the $300 billion of frozen Russian assets to reassign to Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and rebuild the country.

The Issue: Trump’s decision to demolish the East Wing of the White House and build a grand ballroom.

Miranda Devine’s piece on how Trump is building the new White House ballroom should’ve focused more on the thousands of workers needed (“Rebuilding our nation’s pride,” Oct. 23).

Since this is a federal project, it must be staffed by union workers if available.

Projects like this bring out the very best craftsmen that unions can offer.

Though they historically back Democratic candidates, they should look at who is putting them to work: a Republican president.

It’s time for the building-trades unions to rethink their allegiance.

Dems have done nothing for unions for decades.

Some union leaders might disagree, but all you need to do look at is the results.

It amazes me that Canadian TV networks are jumping on the bandwagon of some American networks’ campaigns to criticize Trump’s 1,000-seat ballroom, which is being paid for without a cent of taxpayer money.

In Canada, we have these same journalists and anchors ignoring the derelict residence at 24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa that is so disgusting that the prime minister hasn’t lived in it for a whopping 10 years.

If only we had a prime minister like Trump, who wouldn’t allow this Canadian landmark to fall into absolute and total ruin.
