Pope and King Charles pray together in ‘hugely symbolic moment’

King Charles III has become the first head of the Church of England to pray publicly with the Pope. The BBC’s Mark Lowen was in St Peter’s Square during the service – held in the Sistine Chapel – which he described as a “hugely symbolic moment in theological history”.

The Queen was seen at the ceremony wearing white after previously keeping to the dress code of wearing black when meeting the Pope earlier in the day – seen as a sign of respect.

The service inside the Sistine Chapel brought together clergy and choirs from both the Catholic Church and the Church of England, of which the King is the supreme governor.
