NY Times calls terrorists ‘hostages,’ Mamdani’s sick fix for bus assaults and more

Diary of disturbing disinformation and dangerous delusions

This caption:

“Watching the sunset at the beach on Sunday, hours before the expected exchange of hostages between Israel and Hamas.” — The New York Times, Monday

We say: Israel was NOT releasing “hostages,” only prisoners, including 250 convicted of the most heinous crimes, including bus bombings that killed dozens of people, planning major terror attacks and murder.

This reason:

“A key reason we have to make buses free is because it reduces the assaults on bus drivers.” — Zohran Mamdani, Tuesday

We say: No, a thousand times, no: You don’t stop crime by letting criminals do whatever they want, Zohran. If farebeaters are assaulting bus drivers, then we need more cops on buses to arrest these goons. Don’t surrender the city to its predators.

This claim:

“The idea that politics played a role in big cases like this is absolutely ludicrous.” — former Special Counsel Jack Smith, Tuesday

We say: Ridiculous: Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith after White House insiders told The New York Times that President Joe Biden was furious that Garland wasn’t prosecuting Donald Trump. And Smith’s mission was entirely political. His indictments of Trump, for retaining classified files and his role in the Jan. 6 “insurrection,” were both unprecedented and unreasonable.

This comparison:

“They’re [the hostages] probably being treated better than the average Gazan.” — Christiane Amanpour, foreign correspondent, Wednesday

We say: That Amanpour was soon forced to apologize makes this no less odious. Hamas kidnapped innocent Israelis, and savagely murdered dozens of them, including babies, in captivity; it proudly shared videos of hostages being starved and tortured. Average Gazans’ suffering (in a war Hamas started) doesn’t remotely compare.
