Charlie Kirk’s memorial service: Letters

The Issue: The memorial service honoring Charlie Kirk’s legacy at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

What a site to behold: Some 70,000 admirers of Charlie Kirk filled State Farm Stadium, with thousands more outside and millions around the world to witness the memorial (“200K supporters turn out to overflowing Ariz. stadium,” Sept. 22).

On top of that, there was not one incident of looting, graffiti, burning down buildings, fights with police or angry protesters reported.

Not since the Ecumenical Charismatic Renewal of 1977 in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City has this nation seen a Christian and cultural revival of the magnitude witnessed at the memorial service honoring the life of Charlie Kirk.

The far-reaching effects and powerful impact of Kirk’s God-given mission and too-short walk upon this earth can only be imagined now. He is a present-day martyr.

When George Floyd was murdered, the events following could be summarized by articles such as “Riots following George Floyd’s death may cost insurance companies up to $2B.”

When Kirk was murdered, the events following could be summarized by the article “Charlie Kirk funeral hits capacity as 200K people turn out — Trump, widow Erika speak of ‘patriot.’ ”

Which events do you want to identify with?

Nolan Nelson

Matthew 5:44 in the Bible says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

Erika, the wife of the slain Charlie Kirk, said at his memorial, “The answer to hate is not hate,” as she forgave her husband’s killer. At the same event, President Trump stated, “I hate my opponent, and I don’t want the best for them.”

Which person is looking for a positive world? The reader can easily determine that.

Dennis Fitzgerald

Melbourne, Australia

To Erika and the young leaders of the Turning Point USA movement: Keep it going, especially on college campuses, where the minds of our youth will determine our future.

J.R. Cummings

Is America ready to be saved? Is this really the inflection point for change? Based on the massive turnout for Charlie Kirk’s memorial, it appears Americans have reached their limit.

The memorial was truly faith-based — though you don’t need to be religious to realize that religion-based values of decency should be the reference point for societal standards.

A society loses its structure and integrity when laws are disrespected and religious values are undermined.

Perhaps the murder of Kirk will be exactly what it takes to awaken and rattle the masses who have remained silent.

Ronald Frank

West Orange, NJ

At Kirk’s memorial, Trump said, “I hate my opponent. and I don’t want the best for them.”

Now I see why so many Christians are supportive of Trump’s presidency. He has relieved them of a lot of hard work, forgiveness and love. They can just hate lots of folks now and be saved in the kingdom of Trump.

Kimball Shinkoskey

Woods Cross, Utah

The outpouring of love, support and respect for Kirk on the day of his memorial was beyond belief. Turning Point USA will continue the fight against the evil trying to destroy America.

I shed tears for this beautiful man and for his wife, children and family.

This horrific act of murder happened because of the violent rhetoric from the left side of this country. Democrats are in trouble because this movement is growing by the minute. The left has awakened the country.

Kirk will be missed and forever remembered.

Jean Cole

Juno Beach, Fla.

Kudos to Erika Kirk for being a big enough person to say that she forgives Charlie’s murderer.

She also expressed no opinion about what type of punishment the murderer should receive for this heinous crime.

How many of us could have said the same thing in similar circumstances?
